Sanquin Diagnostic Services phased out the WHO custodianship
For the last twenty years Sanquin Diagnostic Services has been one of the WHO International Laboratories for Biological Standards. In this role Sanquin also acts as custodian for a part of the WHO Biological standards.
NIBSC the new custodian
Due to increased international requirements for preparation, warehousing and shipments of biological standards Sanquin Diagnostics Services and the Experts Committee Biological Standards (ECBS) of the WHO decided to concentrate the custodianship at the National Institute for Biological Standards and Control (NIBSC) in the United Kingdom. Effectively NIBSC will take care of the standards currently in custodianship at Sanquin from January 2007.
Transitional period in December
During December 2006, Sanquin Diagnostic Service is transferring the WHO-standards* to NIBSC in Potters-Bar (UK). In the month of December the delivery of the Biological Standards and Reference Preparations is set on hold. All requests for Biological Standards and Reference Preparations will be collected and forwarded to the NIBSC.
